Rebecca S. Murphy
Family Finance
My mission is to impart a level of understanding that nurtures individuals through the process of terminating their marriages and helps them accept, with confidence, their lives as financially independent individuals. Perhaps my highest qualification in this field is my personal divorce experience. My former husband and I fully cooperated, practiced nesting, and continue to work together professionally post-divorce. My children, now adults, emerged from this traumatic life event with the least amount of harm possible.
By education, I am an attorney with over thirty years of experience in the insurance and financial services industries. I have earned the CLU, ChFC, and CLTC professional designations and later obtained the Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA) credential so that I could help other divorcing couples pursue outcomes similar to my own. In the final analysis, if you have children, they are a part of both of you. When spouses wage war against one another, their children inevitably become the casualties.
A CDFA reviews and synthesizes clients’ financial data to determine both the short-term and long-term financial impact of proposed divorce settlements, thereby facilitating the achievement of balanced, mutually beneficial outcomes. A CDFA provides valuable insight into divorce-related financial issues, including the transition from dual- to single-household budgeting, income tax consequences, division of pension and defined contribution retirement plans, continued health coverage, and related matters. The role of a CDFA is to assist the attorney or attorneys involved, not to replace them.
Because financial analysis is not part of the traditional law school curriculum, financial professionals and attorneys bring complementary expertise to the collaborative process, allowing clients to benefit from a more comprehensive approach. I founded Facilitated Divorce Solutions, LLC in 2007 and have since assisted more than one hundred divorcing couples and individuals. I also proudly served as President of the Academy in 2014 and 2015.
